COLT NICHOLS
An Oklahoma State Cowboy’s fan at heart, the Muskogee native is hoping for another podium “Sooner” rather than later. Colt Nichols is considered by many to be the dark horse of this season’s 250 West Coast tour, as he continues to impress aboard a non-factory team.
While some would say he had
a modest amateur career, Nichols was on the cusp of the spotlight many times, but was unfortunately overshadowed by miscues, competition, and bad luck.
Loretta Lynn’s 2006 saw Nichols place second to 65 (10-11) winner Zach Bell, and actually beat Cooper Webb (3rd). The
dude ranch has been known to provide and destroy dreams, with Colt experiencing the latter in 2010, yielding the Schoolboy 1 title to Luke Renzland in the last moto; and if deuces are wild, three of a kind saw Colt take the number two spot in 2014’s Open Pro Sport Division, nestled between R.J. Hampshire and Aaron Plessinger.
But as we all know, the present is what matters; the past is long and forgotten about. Still unknown to many, the Yamaha pilot lurks in the shadows, preparing to seize another highlighted finish and garner the attention of opposing team owners.
