Outback Jack took 22nd into the night show, and set his sights on a direct transfer to the main out of heat one. Tenth place across the stripe, he remained steady and checked in on the first lap in the same position. Flirting with the final ticket, lap three saw Mellross beginning to take charge, preparing to pounce on a pair of Husqvarna riders. Chris How- ell, the first to fall victim, and Noah McConahy ensued. Mellross would flip the switch to autopilot, and cruise to a cool seventh.
Hayden was completely buried after the gate fell for the 250 main event, twentieth place as they crossed timing and scoring. With each lap ticking
away, the lad from down under began picking off competition like kiwi from the branches; he sat fifteenth by lap three. He hovered near 15th for quite a while, going back and forth, and even propelling to 14th on lap nine. Obtaining 13th by lap eleven, he seemed submitted to Alex Martin and fell back a position with two to go; not willing to give up in the clinch, the Yamaha pilot fought his way back into the number thirteen ride, securing it for his main event finish.
