At the start of the second lap of the heat, Nicoletti finds himself in fifth behind Seely
and the leaders. Nicoletti fights to reel in Seely as Bogle passes through the field. In
the third lap Nicoletti falls behind Bogle and Roczen into sixth place. Canard passes Nico- letti and Nicoletti slips into seventh, Wil Hahn is not far behind him. In the final lap Wil Hahn slips around Nicoletti. Nicoletti starts the semi out in sixth, battling to catch Pourcel who is in fifth, while holding off Bopping. With two laps to go, Nicoletti holds on to sixth place – but passes Pourcel for fifth. With a second separating him and Short, the final lap is an intense battle. Nicoletti holds on to his fifth place for the final lap and transfers to the main.
