Luke Fauser at the start of the moto, riding within bike lengths of one another until they took the green flag at the finish line. Johnson put the hammer down and consistently stretched a gap over his rival, eventually taking the moto win to cap off a suc- cessful opening day the Brawl. The second day of racing was no different in the various (7-9) classes as the up and comer out of Texas showed the competition the fastest way around the track with two more moto victories, including a third place result in the (7-11) class. His aggression and determination on the bike stayed at a constant throughout the entire weekend, no matter which competition he faced. Johnson set the fastest lap
time in both of the (7-9) motos throughout Sunday’s racing, but Fauser didn’t make it easy on him in the Limited class. The
two of them duked it out until the very last lap of the moto, setting the crowd up for an immense battle on the final day of racing. The Husqvarna rider knew what he had to do coming into the final day of the 2017 Baja Brawl, putting in the hard work during the first couple of days with four moto victories. Nonetheless, his racing instinct took over after grabbing the holeshot in the (7-9) mod class and he got pulled
into a spirited battle with KTM’s Luke Fauser. The two of them continued to battle as they did all weekend, but Johnson kept the championship in mind in the late stages of the moto and decided to settle for second place. A similar occurrence took place in the Limited class as a third place start forced him into a mistake in the early stages of the race, but the young Texan showed true grit and perseverance by claiming three positions on the final lap in order to secure his second num- ber one plate of the weekend.
