Barcia was feeling confident when the day began in Maryland. He qualified 3rd and was expected to run near the front. When the first moto began, Barcia got off to a tremendous start and made his way into 3rd early on in the first lap. On the third lap, Barcia made his way passed Andrew Short and was now
in 2nd place. He put his head down and was determined to keep the position. Marvin Musquin started
to close up as the timer ran down and Barcia was not about to give up the position easily. He held him off for many laps and finally had to give the position away to the hard charging Frenchman. Justin was able to hold on to the podium position all the way to the finish and was very happy with his performance. Justin got another good start when the second moto began and was running 5th place early on. He started to make work of the riders in front of him and was being pushed hard by Eli Tomac.
