the semi was a wild one as schmidt would have to fight with ev- erything he had if wanted to put his suzuki into the main event. he came across the line in 7th after lap one and he started
charging. With two to go he caught the 5th place rider Cade Clason and would engage in a quick cat and mouse game before making a hard pass and securing the spot. On the final lap Schmidt would bobble through the whoops allowing Clason do give it one last-ditch effort at the final transfer spot but Schmidt would hold on by the skin of his teeth and escape with a ticket straight to the main event.
The main event was a struggle for Schmidt as he got a bad start and came around lap one in 17th place. However, he was in good position to improve on his season best re- sult of a 17th but he would get shuffled backwards and by the end of the race he ended up finishing 19th overall. Although he didn’t get his season best finish, just qualifying for the main event is a big deal for Schmidt and he will be looking to make that five in a row next weekend in San Diego.
