MAMMOTH
CARSON MUMFORD
Closely following his induction into history by becoming the first mini racer to sign with the esteemed
GEICO Honda squad, the progressing Phenom that is Carson Mumford had a major setback last fall. The now idolized #122 crashed at a local race resulting in a broken left femur, leaving the factory Honda dormant in the garage for over two months. Since remounting his steed, though, Mumford has been basking in his talent and newfound colors. In fact, as 2016 has unraveled, Carson has all but dominated the Mini Sr. classes. Going even further, Honda’s next prodigy has maintained himself as a major threat in the Supermini divisions and has even begun to establish himself on the grueling starting line with the rest of the hungry schoolboy warriors. By June, Carson had cleaned house with over seven Mini Sr. victories and three more in Supermini.
On the Road to Mammoth, with four wins and seven podiums, Mumford qualified 4th or better in all three of his classes, setting up this week to be his week. With a two-day format for each class, day one began bright and early on the earthy loam of Mammoths secret hillside. With Mini Sr. 2 and both Supermini classes on the schedule, Carson warmed up quick with Heat 2 win in the Sr. division. Running into thicker competition in the Supermini 1 class, Mumford posted a 3rd in heat two behind Lance Kobusch and Jo Shimoda, all three on the gas ticking off fast laps through the endless rocky mounds.
