CHANCE HYMAS
PONCA CITY OKLAHOMA
Chance Hymas was one of the most high profile amateur kids to fill out the studded competition at the 2017 Motop- layground Race at Ponca City. The Team Green Kawasaki rider continues to build his results after a couple of top five overall finishes on the 85cc machine at the 2017 Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Championships. The rider out of Idaho was aiming to improve from his first outing at Ponca City, finishing all three classes that he contested on the podium with unrelenting consis- tency. In 2017, Hymas would be contesting five different classes aboard his Kawasaki, providing him with the opportunity to score a plethora of podium finishes. The Team Green Kawasaki rider found the majority of his success in the Mini Sr. classes where he was able to record two separate victories and a second place finish, but it was the Mini Sr. 2 class that produced his champion- ship quality performance. In the opening moto. Hymas found himself tucked in tightly behind the Husqvarna of Larry Reyes Jr. for the entirety of the race. The Kawasaki rider followed closely in the wheel tracks of the Seven MX backed rider, keeping the gap under two seconds as he attempted to prepare for a final push on the last lap. Hymas laid down his fastest lap of the entire moto at the final attempt, but it wasn’t enough to dethrone Reyes. Jr from the top spot and he was forced to settle for second position. In the second moto, Hymas proved his superiority in the class after battling back from a tough start that put him at a disadvantage in the early stages of the race. The Kawasaki rider stormed through the field, making his way from fourth to second in just under two laps. He closed in on the KTM of Kaeden Amerine with only one lap to spare, setting up a grandstand finish between himself and the Rides Unlimited KTM rider. Hymas relied on his fitness and his race craft in order to make the last pass stick, flying past Amerine on the final lap while setting his fastest time of the race, therefore clinching the championship with an impressive first place finish.
