CAMI SAMPLES
PONCA CITY OKLAHOMA
After taking the title in the Girls (9-13) class at the inaugural Motoplayground Race at Ponca City, Cami Samples returned to defend her title, hoping to win another nine foot teddy bear. The Husqvarna rider decided to branch out and race the Girls (11-16) class as well as the Mini Sr. 1 class and she showcased her speed on both fronts, scoring a pair of second place finishes in the Girls class and a top ten in her Mini Sr. 1 heat race. In the Girls (9-13) class, Samples replicated her performance from last year with two first place finishes -- the only difference being that she did so on a Husqvarna instead of a Kawasaki. The young Texan’s starts were the key to her success in both motos as she used her experience on the concrete starting pad to seize an early lead in the opening moto. By the second lap she had pulled an advantage of more than four seconds over the nearest competitor in second position, scoring her personal best lap of the race in the process. Samples did well to manage the gap as she kept her composure all the way to the checkered flag, taking the first moto win in calm and collected fashion. The second race wasn’t quite as easy for the Husqvarna rider as she found herself entwined in a hotly contested battle with Mackenzye Brocato -- the two of them kept it close for the majority of the race and pushed one another all the way until the finish line, setting their personal best laps on the final circulation of the track. Samples resisted the pressure like a professional as she held onto the lead as well as the accompanying overall victory across the finish line, successfully defending her title. If she keeps up her run of good form at The Motoplayground Race, she’ll have to start considering storage options for her teddy bear collection.
