It looked like Davi wanted to pay homage to the late, great Dale earnhardt in his heat race. He sat third for the entire sprint, albeit very impressively as the German Ken roczen was all over him. the top four had a three second cushion over fifth, developing a well fought pace, and something Millsaps should
be pleased with heading into the main event.
This was the homeland, Davi’s time to shine. He’d been in the Southeast his entire career and it was now time to prove to both team owner’s (Forrest and Karsten Butler are originally from Florida) and family that he was a serious threat.
Squeezed between Anderson and Canard for the first three laps, Davi threw a fading Phil Nicoletti to the side and leaped to fourth on lap four. The trio would remain in that order until lap nine, where Millsaps finally gave in to the wrath of the 41. However, he couldn’t get comfortable in sixth, as Ken Roczen was steadily nipping at his heels; he would relinquish the position and drop to seventh on lap eleven. An all clear looked to be in order from the Duke, until lap 19 saw him drop to nineteenth (coincidental). Unfortunately the work he put in on the treacherous tundra wouldn’t amount to much, as he would go home just one spot inside the top twenty.
