The two KTMs of Roberts and Adams suffered with average starts just inside the top 10, forcing themselves to carve through the pack one after another as they attempted to catch up to the podium positions. Roberts was tucked in behind Adams up until the 3rd lap when they sat 6th and 5th, respectively. There was a huge swing in positions and Roberts moved up to 2nd place past Adams and a gaggle of other riders. This put Adams in 3rd place where he would stay until the end of the race, approximately 7 seconds behind his fellow KTM rider.
