KILPATRICK
450 C
JAYLEND MCCARTY / Motocross
The circuit of Gatorback is historic in regards to
both the talent that’s ran through the facility, and the event’s that have been hosted here. Millsaps, Vil- lopoto, Alessi, were names that in constant revolution over the P.A. systems years ago. Anytime the facility hosted an event, there was absolutely no question that some of the best from around the globe would be there to compete. And as far as the event goes, races during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s pro- vided some of the closest competition on the national tour. Names like Kiedrowski, Johnson, and Jean Michel Bayle, all hammered this course with every ounce of energy they had, leaving it all on the line
for the crowd that arrived in masses. That lingering aura that was spoke of old proverbs and tall tales, seemed to resonate with many in the 450 C class;
as they too, felt that they must rise to the occasion, providing their best effort. Who would be the one to leave this championship, calling themselves head
of the division? Well, it would all start with a solid score in their respective qualifying division. First to the board, was heat number one, consisting of riders like Alex Jorgensen, who’d found success throughout the week, and confidently moved his way past Cole Davis on lap number one. Jaylend McCarty, fourth in the early going, worked his way into the number two ride on lap three coming straight after the number 514. However, it was Chadwick Johnson, setting the fastest lap of the moto, scrubbing the series of step up’s on the far side of the track. Johnson and McCar- ty, although slugging with all of their might, couldn’t over take Jorgensen, who would go on to claim the win. Stockton Stinebaugh, a name we’ve become beyond familiar with throughout the year of 2017, felt the flow on his #41 machine, leading the field. Blaze Cremaldi, although setting laptimes as fast as his name, couldn’t sustain the pace the number 41 was placing up on the field. This was the Stockton show, with Cremaldi taking second, and Evan Haimowitz third. It was the B.B. gun of Bailey Breen firing off rounds to begin the main event, although the bullets he was unloading were more similar to an AK banana clip. Breen, throwing down a hell of a heater with a 2:00 even, began to stretch the gap, with a few of the heavy hitters encountering some trouble early on. The number 371 of McCarty, taking notes of fellow Colorado native Eli Tomac, mocking his aggressive riding style, was doing everything in his power to real in Bailey Breen. Breen would prevail however, push- ing the stopwatch to over ten seconds, in comparison to the rest of the field. The consistency of McCarty would pay off however, his 2-2 scores taking home the championship! He couldn’t have been happier
as he received his honors, truly in disbelief when the plate was in his hands.
