Joey was excellent in practice early at Thunder Valley. He seemed to have rekindled his Hangtown speed and was absolutely flying. He posted the second fastest time and went into the motos with confidence. In the first moto, Joey got off to a decent start but was only sitting in 8th place going through the first few sections. Joey was doing everything he could to make passes early and he did just that. He found himself running inside the top five in no time and began chewing away at the Yamaha leaders. On the sixth lap, he was able to slide by Webb for second place and on the very next lap, was able to do a similar move on Jeremy Martin for the lead. Savatgy pulled out a massive lead for quite a few laps until a small mistake left him getting up about 6 seconds behind the new
leader, Jeremy Martin. Joey did everything he could to gain the time back but the track beat him in this moto. In moto two, Joey
was determined to get back to the top and he did just that.
