Weston Peick came into Red Bud looking to build off a season best seventh overall last weekend at Muddy Creek. He got right to it in qualifying practice by throwing down the seventh fastest time and looked to have the confidence to finish up front come race time. Peick got off to a so-so start in the
opening moto and rounded lap one in seventh place yet again. He held strong in that position and inched up on the rear wheel of Justin Bogle for sixth a few laps in. He was hounding the Geico Honda rider when he would make a mistake and go down falling all the way back to twentieth. Peick remounted and began picking up where he left off and started charging towards the front. He climbed up to thirteenth with three laps to go before he ran into problems and could not finish the moto. Peick was looking for some redemption in the second moto but did not get off to the best of starts. He rounded lap one in fourteenth place and started making moves. He bullied his way up into eleventh just a few laps into the moto. However that would be as far as he would make it as he could not find away around his Auto Trader/Monster Energy JGR Yamaha teammate Phil Nicoletti. Late in the moto Benny Bloss would sneak by Peick and Peick latched onto his rear fender. The duo would finally get around Nicoletti and Peick would end up in eleventh place. He has to be bummed he couldn’t continue his streak of good results but he’ll look to get back on track at Southwick.
