Colt Nichols wasn’t able to repeat his career best seventh place overall at High Point last weekend at Muddy Creek so he was looking to get back on track at Red Bud. He put forth a decent qualifying effort escaping the practice sessions with the sixteenth quickest time. He knew he would need to nail
a holeshot if he wanted to get back to running at the front of the pack. Nichols would get the opposite of a
good start in moto number one. He rounded lap one buried in twenty-fifth place. The track was extremely rough and physically demanding making passes that much more of an effort. Nichols would only be able to claw up to nineteenth place after his poor start. He just didn’t look comfortable out on the track and that showed in his result. He was looking to readjust and reset for moto two. Nichols got another bad start in the second moto but it was better than the first. He finished lap one in nineteenth place and began making some passes. He hopped up into sixteenth by lap four and settled in. He couldn’t quite close the gap between him and Renzland in fifteenth and would actually start falling backwards. Forkner, Plessinger and Jordon Smith would all make their way by the #69 of Nichols in the latter half of the moto sending him right back to where he started in nineteenth. Nichols would end the moto in that spot making it 19-19 moto scores on the day. The young Oklahoman is capable of much more and will be looking to prove that next weekend at Southwick.
