Black ball in the corner pocket, as Pourcel cued in on the eighth position early under the Michigan sun. This track has suited him well in the past, and with an abundance of line choice at his fingertips, the craftiness of his true nature wanted a chance to blossom. French culture and art history emphasizes precision and timeliness to perfect one’s masterpiece, and for the rest of the moto, Pourcel did exactly what his ancestors had mastered and taught to both he and fellow countrymen. Picking off seventh, sixth, and eventually into fifth throughout the duration of the moto, the heat of a fellow collègue would begin to rise, as Marvin Musquin was close enough to scream in his ear. The impact would eventually come to
a head, and boil over, allowing Musquin to inch his way past. He would remain here to finish sixth and
pleased going into the second round. The reaction time is so critical in this game, that it can literally separate a rider thousands of dollars and hours of exposure, just with the mistiming of shift or delayed drop. Pourcel found that out again as the gate fell for moto two, sitting in a mediocre tenth five minutes in to the moto. Ninth with ten minutes to go, he was nestled between Baggett and Nicoletti, looking to adjust and capitalize on what lay in front of him. There seemed to be no quit or reemergence of lazy episodes of the past, as he would go on to finish seventh in the moto, and a solid seventh overall as the series heads to Southwick.
