Shane looked smooth and fast in the morning program at Redbud. He posted some fast times in both practices and ended up with 11th gate pick going into the first moto. When the gate dropped for the first moto, Shane got off to an unfavorable start and was running just inside the top twenty on the first lap. In the next five minutes, Shane was able to make up five positions and was looking to challenge for a top ten
position sooner than expected. He found himself in 10th place just passed the halfway point and was creeping up on the 9th place rider. On the last lap, Shane was able to make the move and finished a respectable 9th. In the second moto, McElrath knew
he was not going to have another mediocre race as he jumped out to a commanding holeshot. Savatgy got him quickly but he knew he had the speed to hang. He chased him close and nearly passed him many times in the next couple laps. The pressure paid off as Savatgy lost the front end in a corner and handed the lead back over to Shane. Shane was now in the same position as he was last weekend and he was determined to win. As they came down the hill, the corner following was very hard to make, as the berm was depleting. Shane had no choice but to push through the banners and found himself off track momentarily. He was able to re-enter
the track around 4th place but was soon passed by hard charging Zach Osborne. Shane was able to take advantage of a crash by Jeremy Martin and slipped back into the 4th position. By the time the checkers flew, Shane lost a position but managed to take a solid 5th place. His finishes would be good enough for 5th overall at Redbud.
