JOEY SAVATGY
Back in the Supermini class days Joey Savatgy was a top dog and Honda/Redbull had his back. Once moving onto the big bike class in the amateur scene @versacesavatgy37 wasn’t putting in moto scores like some may have predicted. After Joey’s last year at Loretta’s the A class rider was looking to turn professional but no teams where on his door step with an offer. J STAR KTM was looking for another rider on their 250 effort and Colleen
Millsaps informed the team that they should come out and take a look at Joey on the training grounds. The team competed in the West coast division and Savatgy immediately caught my eye at his first professional race at Anaheim where he was able to battle defending champ Eli Tomac in the heat race. Its always unfortunate news when a team shuts its doors but a new team named FMF/ Orange Brigade/ KTM team was created just for Savatgy to compete in the outdoor series. A year later Joey was a sophomore and was signed to the Rockstar Energy Racing KTM team, which is now the factory Husqvarna team. After his one year contract was up with the Rockstar team, and with the team making big changes it was time for Joey to find a new home. Mitch Payton of Pro Circuit Kawasaki did what he does best and turned Savatgy from a top 10 rider to a constant threat to the podium every time he lines up in just two years. Joey has stepped up his program immensely since making the switch to the power house 250 class and is now training full time down at the Ricky Carmichael farm with the Goats original trainer and mother, Jeannie, who is putting the boots to the current points leader.
