The amount of foreign trade deals, contract negotiations, and inked dotted lines would have everyone from team managers to our presidential candidates in frenzy. We all saw what unknown waters could do to Eli, with this past year being a little less than stellar for his expectations, but as the gate dropped for the MEC, Tomac appeared to be at home on his green bean. The clashing of the gate in moto one saw, Tomac storm to third place position, with familiar foe Ken Roczen leading the field. Trading paint with former amateur class competitor, Blake Baggett, Tomac juked with urgency around the number four, yearning to keep Roczen within arm’s reach. Spinning on the moist, concrete-esque Vegas floor, Tomac rang out until the end, ultimately coming up a bit short and finishing second. As the ring girls made their way off the floor for the start of moto two, Tomac fell into the exact same situation that moto one had brought along; a trailing of the number one. With Ryan Dungey all over his rear fender, he was sandwiched between to atmospheric pressures, and something was going to have to give. The breaking branch in the equation? Ken Roczen. The number one made a devastating miscalcula- tion in the rhythm lane, crashing, and pushing Tomac to the forefront. A recipient of one’s misfortune, but he had to be in the right place at the right time, sticking to the task at hand. From here on, he would put down numerous consistent laps, taking an unheralded lead and claiming victory.
With the million being swept off the table, there was still quite the sum of cash left for the eventual
winner, and Tomac was on the cusp of the green.
