As photographers crept, crouched, and waited to get the flash bulbs popping as the field crested the initial chalk, it was Mike Alessi’s white machine who stood out in a sea of orange. Battling for fourth on the opening lap, Alessi began to be swal- lowed by a pack of ferocious wolves. Fifth turned into sixth, and the fatigue began to over- whelm as the heart rate spiked. Searching all around the Vegas floor for a tad bit of traction, Mike couldn’t seem to find the magic rut that could propel him forward. As the checkered flag flew, Alessi would take eighth place back to the semi. The initial butterfly’s had left the nest, and Alessi appeared a tad more calm than the first go-round as the pack took the opening green flag. An outdoor rider by heart, the MEC track allowed for him
to showcase his ability to master different terrain in one sanction; battling for the top five lap after lap, Alessi would remain strong, and proud. As the checkered flag flew, the number 800 would be just on the outside of the top, claiming sixth. Every rider places to their strengths at some point, and in Vegas, Alessi followed suit; blasting out to a ridiculous holeshot in moto three.
