It wasn’t hard to locate the Honda of Mumford, as he was the only four-stroke machine in the field. Letting the 150 purr as he dropped down the pitch of the starting strip known as Mt. Everest, he latched onto the number 325 of Stilez Robertson and held on with all of his might. Hounding in each and every section of raceway, Mumford now added Seth Hammaker to list of rivals (against his will) as the opening laps commenced. Searching high and low, Mumford displayed an abundance of confidence, all the while remaining poised as the flags continued to wave. With the race winding down, the number 122 would bring a home a remarkable third place finish, eyeing his revenge in moto number two. No need for a pre-race pep talk, the fire that simmers onto the red paint of the Honda is a reflection of what drives the number 122; and the holeshot in moto two was living proof of that. With his biggest competition just behind, Mumford began to pin the 150 for all she had, bouncing off the rev limiter, riding if there was no tomorrow. The three emerged as one, literally shuffling as fast as the card decks at Caesar’s, and the crowd roaring amongst them. Back and forth they went, eventually pushing Mumford into the number two spot and trailing his fellow Californian by a nose. Giving it all he had, the Honda pilot had nothing to be ashamed of, and it would fall just a hair short of victory by race end. An excellent job, he would go on to finish second place.
