The Monster Energy Cup has become one of the most important races for amateur riders. This is there chance to prove their supercross skills to all of the sponsors watching before they jump into the professional ranks. Troy Lee Designs KTM rider Sean Cantrell was one of the favorites coming into the event. Starting off the day qualifying 2nd to his teammate Mitchell Falk, the stage was set for a great battle. Dropping down the long start straight for the first time, Cantrell found himself in a great position with a top three start. Shuffling back and forth
with Mitchell Falk, Cameron Mcadoo and Challen Tennant, Cantrell found himself in a steady 4th place position. After a last lap mistake from Mcadoo, Cantrell crossed the finish in 3rd place and put himself in great position for the overall finish. After a chaotic start in moto two, Cantrell found himself inside the top five and with a shot at the overall win. Aggressively moving his way to the front, Cantrell sat in 3rd place half way through the race and had the overall win in hand. With only a few laps to go disaster struck as Cantrell had a strange crash over a small double all by himself. Taking a few moments to get back on the bike, Cantrell crossed the line in 10th and finished 7th overall with 3-10 moto scores.
