An uneventful Heat Race saw Friese locked in 7th behind Brayton the whole time. Lining up 4th in Semi 2, Friese got hung up on the gate with pretty much everyone else, resulting in a red flag and restart due to “gate issues”. Vince holeshots the second start, and is quickly overtaken by
Seely by the second turn. By lap 3 Baggett passes him and he qualifies 3rd out of the Semi. #55 gets a good start in the main, manages past the mess in the second turn, and finishes lap 1 in 7th. It was only backwards from there, losing 7th to Peick, 8th to Canard, and 10th to Weimer. With 8 laps to go Anderson, who had cheated death in that lap 1 crash, caught him and put him outside the top 10. Baggett got him with a few laps to go and Vince ended up 12th overall in the main. It was a fair ride for Friese, but he seemed to be missing some of his fire. But, the 12th overall was an improvement on the last two East Coast rounds (15th in Atlanta and 14th at Daytona). Slow improvement is better than none, especially since the Supercross class is more stacked than ever and earning a top 10 spot has never been so difficult. After undoubtedly settling in after a fiery start to the sea- son, Vince should be looking to move backwards less and try to finish closer to where he starts more for the rest of the season. This week that top 10 finish was just out of reach.
