The original nine-one-one managed to slither his way through the field in the initial rhythm lane, and found himself in second trailing Jeremy Martin after the first set of moguls. He began to creep, inching his way through the fresh dozer tread, and eventually running Jeremy wide on lap two, capturing first place. With his heart rate climbing and competition closing, he rallied in the last few laps and held on for his first heat race win of the year.
