Jumping out to an early start in moto one, after qualifying 6th, Barcia snagged a holeshot that quickly gave way to Eli Tomac. Instantly, Barcia found himself in the middle of the top two championship contenders this season. Holding off a charging Roczen for nearly the entire first lap, it wasn’t until the final turn that Justin handed over the 2nd spot to Ken before dropping off the leaders pace. Left to deal with Musquin and the battle for 3rd, Barcia held off the Frenchman for the next few laps before giving
up the last podium spot when the race was winding down, pushing Barcia into 4th at the checkers. Again using his first moto methodology, Justin again rocketed out to another great start before being passed by Roczen and Pourcel
in the first half of lap one. Listed 6th over the course of the next few lap, Barcia eventually made his way around teammate Phil Nicoletti for 5th. Justin was then passed by Tomac to reside in 6th.
