KATELYN CLAUSS
Katelyn Clauss has really exploded to the forefront of the amateur Women’s motocross ranks throughout the beginning of the 2018 season. She found herself raking in consistent second place finishes in the Women (12+) class at both Spring A Ding Ding and the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship. Clauss endured
some heated battles with Tayler Allred throughout both events and just missed out on the top step of
the podium, but she was determined to stand there at the 2018 FMF Cal Classic. The New Mexico native dominated proceedings at Pala Race- way in Southern California as she got out to a fantastic start to the weekend by winning the first two motos. It al- lowed her to focus on the overall and do what needed to be done, making the third place finish in the final moto enough to clinch the championship. Although it was her first major cham- pionship of the year, her riding thus far implies that it won’t be her last.
TY MASTERPOOL
Ty Masterpool was one of the most highly touted amateur racers in the country after dominating the Super-
mini division at Loretta Lynn’s in 2017 aboard a TM. He has since made the move to the Star Racing Yamaha outfit in order to accompany his jump to the
B class, spending the 2018 season competing aboard a YZ125. The Texas native showed up at the California Classic as one of the favorites on the gate in the 125cc (12-17) B/C division, the Schoolboy 1 class, and the FMF Two Stroke class. Masterpool man- aged to come away with a moto win as expected and additionally finished on the podium on five separate occasions, keeping ahold of his consistent speed throughout the entirety of the weekend. Although Masterpool wasn’t able to se- cure a championship at the 2018 FMF California Classic, he was clearly one of the fastest riders in his class throughout the weekend. A ninth place in School- boy 1 greatly affected his overall result, but Masterpool still managed to earn a fourth place due to a first and third place finish in the other races. His best result came in the 125cc (12-16) B/C class, combining 3-4-2 moto scores in order to take second place overall at the end of the weekend.
