With expectations mounting and more and more eyes zooming in on the red background of the number
37, a wave of pride and reassurance overcame the Pro Circuit standout; he took the praise and ran with
it, just barely missing a holeshot to his Kawasaki brother in arms, Adam Cianciarulo. Third in the first few
minutes, he inherited second after a small mistake from AC, and looked to pounce on former training
partner, Jordon Smith as the laps wore down. Scratching, clawing, doing everything within his arsenal to
force Smith out of the way, it finally came to fruition, as he made the pass stick and began to whip the rest
of the class into shape. Building a lead with each lap that passed, Savatgy would hold for the race win in
true championship fashion, and build confidence going into moto two. A near perfect jump helped propel Joey to an
ever so close holeshot to begin the second moto.
