WESTON PEICK
The path that Weston Peick has traveled to get to where he is now with the JGR Yamaha team is one that was riddled with obstacles. Peick is one of the rare examples of a true privateer that had to battle his way through the ranks, from one team to another, and eventually landed a factory ride
with one of the most heavily backed teams in the pits. Peick has put in the work since coming onto the scene in 2010 and he has steadily improved from a fringe main event guy, to a top ten rider, to someone that is able to challenge for podiums when everything clicks. He got his break during the 2014 outdoor season when RCH needed a replacement rider. They called on Peick to fill the void and he was able to finish inside the top 10 in practically every race as well as put the RCH Suzuki into the top
5 at Budds Creek. Undoubtedly, 2015 was the best season of his entire career - he was able to bag two podium finishes which is astonishing to think that a few short seasons ago, he was trying his hardest not to get lapped come the end of the race. Peick’s season got off to a controversial start at Anaheim I after he was involved in an on track altercation with Vince Friese. The two of them have a history with one another on the track and Freise attempted to put a block pass on Peick that forced them both to the ground in the semi-qualifier. This sparked a huge reaction out of Peick and in a momentary lapse of better judgement, he unloaded on Friese. Peick threw hammer fists into the back of the MotoConcepts rider’s neck and helmet as he curled up and attempted to defend himself. As a direct result of Peick’s actions, he received a $5,000 fine from the AMA, a disqualification, as well as a suspension dished out for San Diego. Peick has yet to recover following the early season incident and display the speed he showed last year in Supercross. He definitely has the speed on occasion to finish on the verge of a top 5, but he’ll have to figure his starts out if he hopes to finish at the top end of the field before the season is over.
