Thankfully avoiding his past and being healthy for the majority of 2016 thus far, Canard was able to continue his top-level speed in his first trip to Gillette Stadium this past weekend. All in all, it was a successful round for the HRC Honda crew but Canard’s night was practically
uneventful. He cruised into a 3rd place finish in heat number one after getting around Weimer early and Musquin in the second half of the race. Without a doubt, Canard didn’t even need to rest up but used his time wisely to get ready for the main even festivities that were quickly commenced to beat the night sky. With Trey yet to find a way to the podium this year, his hunger for fulfillment is real. Early in the race, it looked like he might be able to make it happen as the green flag flew on Foxborough’s first main event. He had worked into 5th following a 7th place start, making his way by Bogle and Grant immediately, before setting the sights on Anderson in 4th. By the time he got to 5th, though, Canard was already at a two second disadvantage and had nothing but noise as he was unable to show Jason a fender for the remaining laps. Just as Ken Roczen won the main with a wire to wire victory, Canard went “coast to coast” in 5th and locked-up his fourth top-5 finish in his last four starts. The Oklahoma boy, still dissatisfied with his inability to contend with Dungey and Roczen, has to be happy with the recent success and should continue the energy northbound next weekend. There might only be two rounds left for Canard to do damage but with forty laps left to be written, Trey plans on bringing his pen and paper to East Rutherford.
