ferent lines, in a rather fun manner and com- binational sequencing. Seat-bouncing and wheel-tapping his way through these lanes, he would find some strong lines, as he got ready for the first heat race of the week. It would be that of the 25+ class, stacked with talent from top to bottom. Disengaging the holeshot device at the absolute perfect time, he would pull a slight lead over the likes of Dave Ginolfi, Dustin Jensen, and James Roberts. Little by little each lap, Roman’s mistake free circuits would slowly allow him to accumulate a lead over the course of time. It was an exceptional showing, with a substantial gap at the finish. Following his
DAVE GINOLFI
Making resurgence on the amateur national circuit of sorts, Dave Ginolfi has traveled
far and wide seeking race wins in the vet classes this year. He hasn’t lost any speed, and is still as fearless as ever, when vying for race wins throughout the particular cham- pionship week. He reigned as king at the notorious MotoPlayground Race at Ponca City, this past fall, and looked to continue
his streak of high-profiled finish at an event of this magnitude. With riders like Roman, Roberts, and Jensen in his immediate sur- roundings, he knew this effort would be hard
fought, if he wanted to accumulate any type of noteworthy performance, on his list of storied resume results. Roman would get off to an early start in heat number one of 25+, where Ginolfi would follow suit closely. Hounding the number 731 with a severe amount of intensity, he was doing all he could to keep the chassis of Husqvarna from venturing off track. Holding the insides as tight as possible, he was nearly taking the cover of the tuff-blocks around the inside of the surface of the track layout. Fending off the likes of Jensen for the race’s remainder, he would hold onto second.
Ginolfi would get out to a surging start for the run-off, but quickly
would be overtaken
by Steve Roman. In a
shootout for the lead, Ginolfi was throwing out all the tricks in order to overtake the Suzuki for the number one spot. Doubling and tripling wher-
ever possible, he was pounding the chassis into the limestone, trying to mimic a pogo effect over some of these singles and vari- ous moguls around the course. He would go on to take second. But the real joy’s of the week, would occur in the Vet 35+ class,
heat race win, he looked to duplicate for the run-off, making sure to wipe the slate clean with a perfect sweep of wins. A third place off the start, he would set the fastest lap of the moto on the next go around, dipping into the one minute, nine second margin. Pulling away from both Ginolfi and Roberts, each lap would be near flawless, as he pulled to a three plus second gap over the number 21 Husqvarna behind. He would go onto claim victory, adding another championship to his storied career. Dabbling into the 450 A class next, he wanted to pace himself against the young thriving talent of the division. And he would prevail, claiming a very satisfactory fifth overall. To cap off the week, he would enter his final event of Vet (30+), where it would seemingly be another “Steve Roman” show. With his tire roosting the entire field behind, he would have little to no argument as who the top dog in the field was; and al- though many would put up a fight, he would go onto take the win in surging fashion.

where the field too would be ultra competi- tive. With names like Treadwell, and Brantley nipping at his heels throughout the entirety of the Supercross main event, he would go on to clean house, having the lowest score possible, and claiming an overall win. He wouldn’t stop there however, after taking another second in the Vet 30+ class, moving outdoors, encountering a field with even more depth, a sixth would be garnered in
the 25+ class. For 35+ though, all the stars would seem to align, where he again would sweep the class off their feet. Feeling in rhythm throughout both moto’s entirety, the gold medal would be laced around his neck, and a tally of two titles would be granted in his name by week’s end.
JAMES ROBERTS
Making the drive from Lake Orion, Michigan, James Roberts looked to make a mark on the territory of Northern Florida, and specifi- cally that of Gatorback Cycle Park. Riding at Gatorback Cycle Park multiple times in the past, he wanted to relive his youth, by com- peting on what of the most hollowed grounds in the sport. His number 165 machine was awfully familiar on the amateur circuit, as he was a staple across the Mid-East landscape throughout his younger days; even obtaining a podium at Loretta’s on a 65cc machine. Since then, he’s made Loretta Lynn’s multiple times, Pro Nationals at a number
of facilities, and had a strong showing back at the Dude Ranch this past year in the vet class. So to continue on his tour, he wanted to leave the normal “adult” life for a week, spending the holiday in a bit of warmer weather; signing up for the 25+ class in
