Turning up the heat, again, for the second week in a row, a hard charging Tomac had to battle hard to make into the main event, a symbol for up and down Eli’s season has been so far. In his heat race, Tomac got out to a 12th place start heading across the first rhythm but made quick work of
those in front of him, with the help of Vince Friese going down, to come out of lap one in 8th. Battling with Baggett at the start of lap three, Eli had worked into 6th and had to deal with the Yoshimura Suzuki rider in order to continue his press towards a transfer spot. Running out of time, Tomac’s body language became visually frustrated as he utilized each tendon in his body to pull up Seely and Brayton in, who raced a few seconds ahead of him. By the time the six laps had come to end, Tomac had missed the main by just a few bike lengths and looked to Semi #2 for a shot at the aforementioned spotlight. Coming out of the start in 4th, he came up short on the first double out of the first turn, robbing the speed he had built and making the charge that much harder. Understanding the significance, Eli moved into 3rd, around Broc Tickle, halfway through the second lap allowing him into 3rd where he would cruise the remaining three laps before the main event. Unhappy with his entire season, Eli walked to the starting line deter- mined. The quiet crusader of the 450 class, Colorado’s finest started the twenty lap face-off in 7th behind points leader Ryan Dungey.
