>> Coming off the Australian Supercross championship, Hayden Mellross was hoping for a better season over here in the States. Get- ting a best finish of 7th and several top ten’s he was on his way to the desired podium positions. Heading into the last round the best he could hope for was beating his best finish of the year. Starting the night, he got a decent start in his heat race sitting right around 11th through the first turn. Quickly making a pass on Mitchell Oldenburg he moved into 10th. Making a mistake that cost him a chance of qualifying into the main event out of the heat race, Mellross didn’t start the night out on the right foot. Finishing his heat race back in 13th it was going to be work in the LCQ going up against some tough competition. Getting a much better start out of the gate he was sitting up in 3rd place. The 5150 Energy rider kept it pinned passing into 2nd where he finished off the last chance qualifier and moved onto the main event. The extra seat time in the LCQ paid
off because he charged out of the gate for the main event and was up
in 5th through the first turn. Sitting higher in the field than he had ever been the nerves got the best of him and he slowly fell back. As the race progressed he kept falling back until he landed in 8th place where he would ride out the remainder of the main event. Finishing the season off with another top ten was a great finish, and he will come back next year even stronger.
