Life was quite a bit different in the year 1849. Parts of our young, developing
nation were in quite a bit of poverty, forcing residents from all over the East
coast and beyond to search for means to provide for their families.
Erratic seasons of harsh climate, episodes of famine, and lack of medical research to cope with certain disease became more and more common. Life seemed to subside for many, until rumors of “a land of gold” became widespread. The destination for wealth: California. Where everyone looked to get rich, fast.
The number 486 of Chase Sexton has too been on the hunt for gold throughout his amateur career, and on this particular weekend, the path led him to “The Golden State.” Departing from his native
Illinois foundation, Sexton was determined at all costs to receive a glistening piece of hardware.
