Stewart was determined to silence any doubters – rocketing off into second and immediately challenging the champ – Ryan Dungey. The crowds were on their feet as Stewart pressed Dungey for several laps. But as the heat race came to a close, Stewart backed off. Holding on to his second place and qualifying spot as the finish flag came out. The crowd was cheering their heart out for Stewart as he began making his way toward the top riders with a solid and fast ride – much to the dismay of thousands of fans, a bike issue would sideline Stewart in lap ten, putting him out for the evening.
