>> Kennedy Lutz proved herself as a top contender in the women’s classes at the 2017 JS7 Freestone Spring Championship. The Yamaha rider ended the week of racing with three second place finishes and three moto victories in a valiant showcase of speed and consistency. The South Carolina native had some impressive battles with established riders such as Jordan Jarvis and Jazzmyn Canfield, beating them on multiple occasions. She was most im- pressive in the Collegegirl (16-24) class as she put her Yamaha on the top step of the podium in both races, completing a perfect pair of motos and subsequently snagging the number one plate. In the first race, Lutz got out to an early lead ahead of the Honda of Brook Whipple, and she immediately set a fiery pace from the front of the field. The rider out of South Carolina was able to clock lap times more than five seconds faster than any of her competitors, eventu- ally accumulating a gap of almost thirty seconds by the time she crossed the finish line. It was more of the same in the second moto as she found herself leading Whipple on the opening lap yet again. She resisted some early pressure from the California native and consistently built a gap from the lead, gaining about six seconds per lap on her competitors. Lutz put in another dominant performance in which she finished the race with nearly a thirty second advantage yet again, stamping her authority on the Collegegirl class as she secured the number one plate.
