>> Maximus Vohland put in an incredible week of results at the 2017 JS7 Freestone Spring Championship. The young Californian finished on the podium in each and every moto that he contested, putting him in the position for an incredible run of three overall podium finishes, as well as a title in the Mini Sr. 2 class. Vohland impressed on the 85cc machine as he managed to grab a second place in the 85cc (9-13) class as well as a
third place in the Mini Sr. 1 class. The Team Dunlop Elite rider started the week off on the right foot as he won all three of his motos on Wednesday and Thursday, proving to his competitors that he was a force to be reckoned with. He didn’t make it easy on himself in the first Mini Sr. 2 moto as he was forced to battle back from a disadvantage in the early stages of the race; Vohland found himself in fourth place on the opening lap with a gaggle of extremely fast riders ahead of him, but he remained undeterred by the task at hand. He incessantly chipped away at the pack of riders that were leading him, taking one position per lap until there was no more progress to be made. Firstly, he found his way around his Orange Brigade teammate, Matthew LeBlanc, on the first flying lap. Shortly thereafter, the young Californian pressured Kaeden Amerine into a mistake and promoted himself to sec- ond position, setting the fastest lap time of the race in the process. Vohland set his sights on Houston’s own, Larry Reyes Jr, and it took merely one lap to cast aside the Husqvarna rider and move into the lead. Once he found himself at the front of the field, he kept his head down and hit his marks, catapulting himself to the victory as well as a good position heading into the second moto. The gate dropped on the second race and Vohland decided to take a different approach to victory this time around -- the #711 KTM rider blazed down the start straight with a fiery pace as he elbowed his way through the first corner with the advantage of a clear track ahead of him. Vohland never surrendered the lead throughout the entirety of the moto, utilizing the opportunity to take his own lines to his advantage
as he set the fastest lap of the race at the midway point. His style and skills on the bike were glaringly apparent as he scrubbed each jump at every opportunity, navigating the deep ruts of the challenging Freestone County Raceway like a pro. Vohland cruised to the victory with an almost five second advantage ahead of Suzuki’s Caden Braswell, earning himself the moto win and the subsequent overall victory.
