>> Jordan Jarvis came into the 2017 JS7 Freestone Spring Championship with some serious mo- mentum after compiling a couple of number one plates throughout the spring nationals so far. The North Carolina native has already accumulated five titles at the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship in recent years, and she was looking to add to her tally throughout the week of racing. It was Jarvis’ sweet sixteen in the middle of the week and she provided herself with some of the world’s great-
est presents as she came away from the event with three number one plates, making it eight titles across three years down in Wortham. Jarvis absolutely dominated the Girls Sr. (12-16) class, the Schoolgirl (12-16) class, and the Women (12+) Amateur class as she won five out of six motos and finished second place in the other. In the Girls Sr. class, Jarvis made things easy on herself by creat- ing a sizable advantage from the first corner onward and never looked back. The Triangle Cycles backed Yamaha rider had accumulated a gap of more than five seconds on the opening lap, setting herself up for an easy remainder of the moto as she focused on hitting her marks all the way to the finish line. The second race was a little bit more difficult as Mother Nature provided some treacher- ous conditions for the riders to overcome. Jarvis found herself in second place behind her longtime rival, Jazzmyn Canfield, on the opening lap, and the two of them began to pull away from the rest of the field. The track was a sloppy mess due to an afternoon downpour and both Yamaha riders did their best to deal with the challenging conditions. Jarvis kept the gap constant until the midway point of the race when she found an opportunity to pounce on the leader, never looking back once the move was made. She put the hammer down and stretched her lead to almost eight seconds by the end of the race, securing the number one plate in the process. In the Women (12+) Amateur class, Jarvis had an incredible battle with her fellow Yamaha rider, Kennedy Lutz. The two of them got out to the front of the pack at the start of the race which sparked a battle of their own, swapping posi- tions multiple times throughout the five lap affair. The North Carolina native turned up the heat on the third lap by setting the fastest lap of the moto, but it wasn’t enough to separate herself from Lutz and she ended up conceding the position on the final lap, setting up a grandstand finish for the second moto. She found herself behind Lutz for the first couple of laps of the second moto as well, but she was motivated to clinch the overall with a first place finish. Jarvis made the move on the third lap and set the fastest time of the race on the lap that followed, tightening her grip on the lead as she soared to another victory, and another number one plate. It was more of the same in the Schoolgirl class
as the aforementioned Yamaha riders duked it out for the overall, but Jarvis was able to come away with the advantage due to her relentless pace and pinpoint starting technique. She had one of her most successful weeks to date at the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship, coming away with three titles and providing herself with a sixteenth birthday present that will not soon be forgotten.
