JAKE LEAHEY
JAKE LEAHEY | KTM RC390
Leahey wasn’t able to finish where he wanted after Friday’s qualifying session, but he still managed to put himself in seventh place on the grid with a 2:51.963. The New Jersey native sprung into action in the opening race of the weekend by jumping up into sixth position on the opening lap, making up one position from his qualifying spot. He was involved in a tightly contested seven rider battle for the final podium spot throughout the entirety of the race, but he spent the majority of
the time dicing it up with Draik Beauchamp and Alex Dumas. Leahey waited patiently throughout the midway point of the race, settling into sixth and seventh position as the checkered flag approached. He positioned himself in a prime spot for the slipstream to the line on the final lap and he was able to work his way past Sergio Rodriguez II, clinching his best finish of the season with a fourth. In the second race, Leahey changed his approach and battled near the front of the second group on the opening lap, but he was quickly shuffled down to seventh position just one lap later. He spent the next couple of laps attempting to work his way back up towards the front of the group, but he made a mistake under braking on the approach to turn five and dropped to the back of the group. He did what he could to claw his way back through the field, but his rhythm was stifled and he was forced to settle for tenth position in the second race as he maintains tenth place in the championship heading into the next round at Utah Motorsports Campus.
