Did I say step? You’ll have to excuse me, as I’ll have to correct myself in stating that Dungey made leaps last Saturday night, adding even more championship flare to the growing trophy case under the Red Bull KTM tent. If you have already forgotten, Dungey, riding on top of an active podium streak record, only had to finish in 14th in order to eliminate any doubts that the
season was his for the second time in a row.
In his heat race, Dungey was lead to the first turn by Chad Reed but, in taking a faster line by doubling into the rhythm follow-
ing the sweeper, Dungey entered turn two out front and never looked back. Six laps of a wire-to-wire, flawless demonstration of championship level racing, Dungey was a shoe-in for the main event and only twenty laps stood between him and the stamp of supercross icon. Again taking advantage of the inside line, Dungey came out in 7th while those in front of him carried the speed around the outside to stay ahead. Roczen jumped out early and checked out yet, for tonight, it wasn’t about main event victory, had nothing to do with the individual battle, instead, Dungey was focused on winning the war and deeming himself defending 450 champion for the first time in his career.
