Joe Biden To Declassify Document On Jamal Khashoggi Assassination
Donald Trump's administration has consistently refused to release the 2018 report, months after the journalist's assas- sination
Three years after the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the Biden admin- istration will declassify the CIA memo that reveals that the order came from the Saudi crown prince, Mohamed Ben Salmane (MBS),confirmed the Director of American Intelligence (DNI), Avril Haines, on Wednesday.
During her
Senate hearing on Tuesday, which confirmed his nomination on Wednesday, Avril Haines promised to release a secret memo about the journal- ist's assassination by Saudi agents, a document that
Donald Trump's administration has consistently refused to release.
The Saudi jour- nalist, Jamal Khashoggi, was murdered by rela- tives of MBS in atrocious condi-
tions in October 2018 at the prem- ises of the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. An act that had caused a global diplomatic crisis, never resolved. And if there is one who should be concerned, it
is the prince. According to US media reports, the memo, drawn up in 2018, con- cludes that the heir, who gave the order himself, is directly liable.
At the time, Jamal Khashoggi's
fiancee and Congress had called for the report to be released, but the Trump administra- tion had always refused. Until now, the lack of formal evidence had benefited the crown prince, who had "stifled" the case by announc- ing the indictment of some 20 Saudis, including two of his rela- tives. Last August, a Saudi court finally over- turned the five death sentences handed down, sentencing eight people to sen- tences ranging from 7 to 20 years in prison.
