Sahara Desert Experiences Snowfall, So Does Saudi Arabia!
When we think of travelling to a desert, we imag- ine barren sand dunes and almost no vegetation. But what if you get to witness a desert enveloped in snow?
Well, that’s the recent reality of Sahara Desert!
Recently, it snowed in the famous Sahara Desert of Africa resulting in the temperature to dip at -2 degree Celsius.
The surreal pic- tures of the snow-
laden Sahara desert were filmed by photog- rapher Karim Bouchetata. The amazing scenes, captured of the desert town of Ain
Sefra in Algeria, show snow cover- ing the dry sand dunes of the desert. Ain Sefra is called the gate- way to the Sahara Desert. It
is located 1000 m above the sea level, and is flanked by the Atlas mountains.
Extreme weather made its way to
Africa and the Middle East, and the temperature dropped below freezing point. Some parts of the Sahara Desert are receiving
snow. As the mer- cury hit -2 degree Celsius, snow blanketed parts of Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, some areas of Saudi Arabia also received light snow, which came as a sweet surprise to the locals. It is said that for the first time in 50 years that the minimum temperature fell so low, and this phenomenon has occurred only thrice in the last four decades. 2017 was the last time it was seen.
