Playboy Doing Away With Nude Models in Magazine

Playboy, the iconic publi- cation that featured nude models and celebrities since its first issue in 1953, will no longer pub- lish images of naked women in its magazines, the New York Times reported Monday.
Editor Cory Jones said the redesigned magazine will be unveiled next March. Female models will still be shown in provocative poses but will no longer be fully nude, a change that CEO Scott Flanders said is driven partly by the
internet.
"You're now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it's just passé at this juncture," he told The Times.
The publication's website got rid of nudity in August 2014 and saw an increase in four million unique visitors a month to 16 million users.
Playboy's print circulation has declined in recent years, dropping from 5.6 million in 1975 to about 800,000 now. It remains an iconic feature of American life, however, and celebrities ranging from Madonna, Sharon Stone and Marilyn Monroe have graced its pages. The magazine also published stories from world leaders, including former President Jimmy Carter, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
The magazine was creat- ed by Hugh Hefner, who, at 89, is still involved with its operations.
