Frightening Video Shows 2 Blood-Splattered Men Revving Chainsaws at Cherry Beach
By News Staff
One of Toronto’s more idyllic loca- tions looked more like the set of a slasher film on Sunday when two blood-splattered men wielding chainsaws appeared to threaten a group of people at Cherry Beach.
A brief video making the rounds on social media shows one of the men ask- ing “Who hit me?” as the duo rev their chain- saws and walk towards a group of backpedalling beachgoers.
Police confirmed that they were called to Unwin Avenue and Cherry Beach Street area on Sunday morning just before 10 a.m. for reports of a large fight.
“It is alleged that
two men involved in the original altercation suf- fered injuries. They then left and returned with weapons,” police told CityNews in a statement.
A second video shows the two being arrested by police and being told they will get medical attention. Both are facing charges.
Police only con- firmed that “weapons” were seized but did not specify the kind of weapons.
Police also have not released their names or what charges may have been laid at this point, citing the need to pro- tect the ongoing investigation.
At the time of the incident, there
were many peo- ple working on the beach. An eyewitness tells CityNews there was some loud music going on at the time and then he heard a bunch of “chainsaw noises” followed by people shout- ing. The eyewit- ness, who did not wish to be identi- fied, says that’s when two men with chainsaws appeared.
Mayor John Tory was asked about the recent gather- ings at the beach, which have been described by some as groups of anti-maskers who protest weekly at Queen’s Park ending up at the beach for a party afterwards.
“We will redouble our efforts to
monitor those,” said Tory. “We want to, on one hand, make sure that people are kept safe and that these kind of scary incidents don’t happen but on the other hand, that people are allowed to live their lives and to enjoy themselves with- out an oppres- sive, enforcement presence.”
“Clearly an inci- dent like this would cause us to want to keep a careful eye on both these gath- erings them- selves because the gatherings, beyond certain numbers and at certain times, are regulated at this moment in time and also ones that scare or oth- erwise disturb people, we want to keep an eye on as well.”
