Spirit Halloween intro- duced a Caitlyn Jenner costume this week, caus- ing an outcry from trans- gender activists who claim the outfit is offen- sive and transphobic.
“Do not turn Caitlyn Jenner into a costume. Your profit will only lead to greater transphobia
and marginalization of an already at-risk communi- ty,” Addison Vincent, the creator of a Change.org petition, wrote to Spirit Halloween.
“At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes,” Lisa
Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween, said in a statement. “We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner cos- tume reflects just that.”
