Mel Gibson Slams The Violence of Marvel Studios Films
By Jeffrey Harris
In the past, actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson criticized Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. More recently, Gibson has now taken aim at Marvel Studios and its highly popular films. Speaking to The Washington Post, Gibson claimed that Marvel Studios’ films are “more violent” than any of the films he’s ever done.
Gibson was asked about the violence in the film in contrast to the film’s main character, Desmond Doss, who is a pacifist. Doss is an American soldier and Christian, who refused to fire a weapon during World War II. He later was awarded the Medal
of Honor after saving 75 fellow soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa.
Gibson defended his film, and he criticized how modern movies now include “violence without a conscience.” He stat-
ed, “To talk about the violence question, look at any Marvel movie. They’re more violent than anything that I’ve done, but [in my movies,] you give a s— about the characters, which makes it matter more. That’s all
I’ll say.”
Hacksaw Ridge is now in theaters. Marvel’s latest release, Doctor Strange, hit US theaters last Friday and topped the box office this weekend.

Rats Laugh When Tummy Tickled, Top Scientists Reveal
TUMMY-TICKLING causes rats to break out in giggles and jump with joy – but only when they are happy, a study has shown.
Scientists confirmed the ticklishness of rats in experiments that involved researchers lay- ing the animals on a platform and tickling them mercilessly with a gloved hand.
The rats responded by approaching the tickler, jumping joyfully, and emitting ultrasonic squeaks beyond the range of human hearing that bore a striking resemblance to laughter.
By monitoring activity in the rat’s brains, the sci- entists confirmed that the animals were behaving in much the same way people do when tickled.
Like humans, they were only able to enjoy being tickled when they were in a good mood.
Tickling-evoked laughter was greatly reduced in rats placed on a high platform, which made them anxious. This was mirrored in their brain activity.
While the rodents responded to several parts of their body being tickled, tummy-tickling set them off the most.
The research, carried out by a German team led by Dr Michael Brecht,
was published in the journal Science.
