Kim Kardashian West
Mocked For ‘Humble' Birthday
Party On Private Island
Kim Kardashian West has been accused of being "tone deaf" after spending her 40th birthday on a pri- vate island with a large group of family and friends.
The reality star said the trip fol- lowed "two weeks of multiple health screens and ask- ing everyone to quarantine".
Posting photos of the event on Twitter, Kardashian West said she was "humbly reminded of how privileged my life is".
While some fans praised her can- dour, others said the trip was "insensitive" to families separat- ed by Covid-19.
"This is so grotesque," one user responded. "The rich can pre- tend to be normal
on a private island. Actual nor- mal people are cancelling their Thanksgiving and Christmas."
British musician Peter
Frampton also replied, saying: "Are you that insensitive you don't realise this is not what the majority of people during the worst Covid spike yet want to hear?
People are going to food banks not private islands."
The coronavirus has killed more than 1.1 million people and has caused economic devastation worldwide.
In the US, a record number of people have claimed unem- ployment benefits this year as a result of job loss- es due to the
pandemic.
Kardashian West acknowledged the impact of the disease as she posted photos from her tropical island getaway.
"Before Covid, I don't think any of us truly appreciat- ed what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe
environment," she wrote.
"After two weeks of multiple health screens and ask- ing everyone to quarantine, I sur- prised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were nor- mal just for a brief moment in time.
"We danced, rode bikes, swam near
whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more.
"I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is."
