of Design. By 1975 she was winning awards for her painting, but in 1978 she was
introduced to pottery by Wendy Masters and Jean Hastedt at Raumati near
Wellington, and changed her artistic direction. She soon went on to win many
awards, including the most prestigious ceramics awards at the time – the Fletcher
Bownbuilt Pottery Award – for her finely carved porcelain work that Jenny Pattrick

described as ‘like paintings on clean white paper’. The link between art and craft
was clear.
