“IT’S JUST BEEN amazing – as soon as we got back to work sales have just been phenomenal... For lawn and garden it’s
been incredibly busy,” says a clearly upbeat Steelfort GM Sales & Marketing, Gavin Lowndes.
Despite initial doubts and concerns going into lockdown, Steelfort is has emerged out the other side in “a pretty good position”, says Gavin, with the first production run of its Chinese-made alloy-based LawnMaster product now on the boat, after a slight delay thanks to Covid-19...
Having ceased LawnMaster production in Palmerston North (see the last issue), almost all
of the affected workers have been redeployed to Steelfort’s commercial stainless steel facility, where demand has “just gone through the roof ”, which is a great result.
Looking forward, Gavin Lowndes reveals that there are also some exciting prospects from Cub Cadet, whose pair of Lithium-ion ride-on mowers have attracted several pre-orders from Kiwis, even at what Gavin admits is an elevated price point compared to petrol-powered equivalents.
The pair of battery-powered ride-ons builds
on “huge increases” in Steelfort’s sales of battery handheld and walk-behind lawnmowers over the last couple of years.
It’s a market that “just continues to grow and grow and grow – there’s a real appetite for it,” says Gavin Lowndes.
