Thinking positive thoughts...
FIRST OFF, APOLOGIES to our readers, who by now will have spotted that this is a combined September-October magazine, not just a late September edition.
The flipside is that it contains everything that we promised for each magazine, and more, including the latest revised version of our highly regarded Products & Services Directory (see page 46 onwards), but a variety of circumstances meant we just could not get a magazine out in September.
Without going into detail, what we’ve worked through in the last month has been similar to what many of you out there who have been working through – that is the social and economic “perfect storm”, the mash up that has been
the pandemic plus this rampant drive towards home renovation and home building at the same time as working around inflation and the supply chain’s constipation.
Talking of which, actually it’s been refreshing talking as I have with the dozens of people who contributed to
this issue, sharing their thoughts about the current state of play across the four sectors – glues & sealants, frame & truss, lawn & garden and paint & decorating
– that we have crammed into this magazine.
Despite everything, in these features you will be hard pressed to find a less than positive view of what’s to come in the next 6-12 months.
Some expressed uncertainty in their outlook.
But none were out and out down in the dumps about the medium term ahead, or the pipeline of building work starting up or already in train which therefore will touch the hardware channel.
And this despite the general media’s insistence on finding the negative in everything.
Glad to work with this free-thinking audience!
Talking about celebrating rather than denigrating, just to remind you that entries for the first categories in the 2023 Hardware Awards close at the end of this month!
How time flies. It will be Thursday 16 February, the evening of the Hardware awards Gala Dinner before you know it.
All the best!
