OSM house wins timber design award
PREFABRICATION IN CONSTRUCTION
continues to attract attention for its speed and potential for cost e ectiveness.
Indeed, among the winners of
April’s Wood Process & Manufacturers Association (WPMA) and NZ Wood Resene Timber Design Awards is a home built using offsite manufacturing (OSM).
The 90m2 three-bedroom prefabricated house on a Christchurch hillside was designed and manufactured by Spanbild’s Concision
factory in Rolleston.
Concision GM, Wade Macauley, says
the design was optimised for o -site manufacturing and on-site assembly of the panels.
“Every element of this house was accurately modelled in 3D, including building bespoke services such as the HRV system and plumbing, before we generated the CNC cutting les for the all timber elements.
“It meant optimal panel sizing and use of materials to minimise waste and
achieve a high level of thermal insulation and airtightness, creating a comfortable indoor climate year-round. e overall result is a high quality yet cost-e ective home built very quickly.”
Indeed: manufacturing the panels took nine days and, once transported to site, assembly of the oor, deck and walkway panels took just one day.
e wall and roof panels were delivered on two trucks and also installed in a single day.
